Question
After selecting a site, the server tells me that the previous session has been closed and that I have to select the site again. What is happening ?
Answer
This comes from the fact that you have not enabled cookies on your browser. A cookie is a piece of information that is received from a server and saved, if possible, in your browser. In the case of Satel-Light, when you have selected a site, you are given a session number which identifies the site that you have selected. This allows you to ask information twice or more, for the same site, without having to select it again and again. Usually, cookies are enabled by default, but your system administrator may have modified this setting. Go to the preferences settings of your browser and enable cookies !

Question
Could you give me some explanation on the web address of the page which contains the information I requested from Satel-Light ?
Answer
Take this example: http://www.satel-light.com/Robin01032000103030/soutdoor.htm, it first consists in the name of the public directory on the server (http://www.satel-light.com/), then there is the name of the user directory which consists (1) in the user name (Robin in our example), (2) the date and time of the request (formatted as mmddyyyyhhmmss, in our example: January 3, 2000 at 10:30:30), and finally there is the name of the html page which depends on the type of the request maps.htm, soutdoor.htm (site outdoor) and sdaylite.htm (site daylighting).

Question
How long do you keep the information I requested ?
Answer
At least three weeks and it may be longer. It all depends on the amount of information generated by you and other users. Since, we must make sure that there is a minimum amount of space in the public directory, we have to remove old user requests whenever this minimum is reached. Three weeks is our guarantee !

Question
Can I include the maps and graphs produced by Satel-Light in my reports ?
Answer
Feel free to do so, as long as you do not modify them (do not remove the Satel-Light copyright logo for instance). The GIF format used to produce the maps and the graphs is recognised by Microsoft Word as well as Adobe PageMaker.

Question
How can I save the information provided by Satel-Light ?
Answer
It depends on the web browser that you are using. If you choose save as... with Microsoft Explorer 4.5 and 5.0, you have the option to create a web archive which will include all the information you requested (tables in HTML and graphs as GIF in a separate folder). Unfortunately, Netscape Navigator 4.5 or 4.7 can only save the HTML file: you will need to save all graphs one by one by dragging them to your desktop (Mac OS) or by clicking on the right mouse button (Windows OS).

Question
Why do the text files downloaded from the server have the .tsv extension ?
Answer
Under Windows, this extension is automatically recognised by Microsoft Excel as a text file containing tab separated values. This means that if you have Microsoft Excel, one click on the file will open it in Excel. Under Mac OS 8.0 and up, you can obtain the same behaviour if you add the .tsv extension in the Mac/PC file exchange utility and if you indicate that this type of file corresponds to Excel text files.

Question
How can I perform various requests for the same site without having to go every time through the process of selecting the site ?
Answer
When you have selected your site and requested information for the first time, simply click once on the back button of your browser. You will be back to the page where you were asked to check the site characteristics. This page includes all the information on your site in the background. Click again on the next button of this page and you are back to the selection of information for that site.
